Chicago Cohorts

3 Cohorts & over 8 Years of Impact

This year marked major momentum across our three Chicago-based cohorts.

The Foglia Family Foundation launched its 2025–26 Impact Cohort, supporting 10 nonprofits — including three brand-new grantees joining the community. These organizations are already building stronger data practices, clearer impact stories, and deeper connections across the cohort.

Meanwhile, our two additional Chicago cohorts — sponsored by IMC Chicago Charitable Foundation and the Christopher Family Foundation — continued to advance learning, collaboration, and capacity-building for dozens of nonprofits across the region.

Shared Learning in Action

This year reinforced that shared learning is one of the most effective levers for systems change.

ICM Report: Impact Data as a Value Driver

We’re proud to have partnered with Impact Capital Managers (ICM) on a research report exploring how portfolio companies experience impact data — and what they need from investors to use it more effectively.

Impact Data as a Value Driver draws on insights from nearly 100 of ICM's portfolio companies, examining how they collect and use impact data, the barriers they face, and the types of support that would make impact measurement and management (IMM) more effective and efficient.

Key findings:

  • 76% of companies that collect impact data say it’s valuable to their business — yet 46% lack the time and 35% lack the funding or resources to fully use it
  • 87% would value additional support to build stronger impact data infrastructure, including help from external experts (44%) and funding to strengthen internal IMM systems (42%)

We’re honored to have played a role in shaping research that helps advance more practical, aligned, and value-driven IMM practices across the field.

Featuring members of our Southeast Michigan Community Impact Cohort, this session highlighted the vital role of collaboration and data-informed strategies in strengthening community initiatives.

One of the things that’s so exciting about using UpMetrics is how it’s helping us reimagine the data we already have—and uncover new, person-centered ways to collect and adapt data that truly reflects our participants’ voices. I also want to shout out our fellow cohort members—it's a brilliant group, and we're learning so much from their insights and experiences.

I come from the theater world, and when you're on stage with a great director, you're constantly getting feedback—small adjustments over and over—until you land that great performance. In the nonprofit world, we don’t often get that kind of feedback. But this work gives us those minor adjustments that help us reach that stellar performance in the end. I'm just excited to be here, and to connect with so many people who are passionate about serving our communities.

One of the most powerful aspects of the [Southeast Michigan Community Impact] cohort is being in person with our colleagues in the work. It’s one thing to see the data visualized on a screen and understand how we’re collecting and analyzing it—but it’s another to bring that data to life by talking with peers about what it means, how it intersects with their work, and what it reveals about our communities.
Andrea Meyer
Executive Director, Center for Success Network

I’m a strong believer in collaboration—no one can do this work alone. To truly make an impact—whether in a neighborhood, a city, or across the country—it has to be done together. Being part of this cohort brings together leaders from across the region—some who’ve been doing this work for years, and others who are just getting started. Together, we’re able to share best practices, exchange ideas, and ultimately, change the world.

Technology Advancements in 2025

The newest wave of enhancements reflect what we’ve heard from partners like you: our tools need to make impact data more useful, transparent, and collaborative - and we're excited to bring them to life.

  • Save Time: Build charts once and reuse them across multiple dashboards - saving time, ensuring consistency, and keeping reporting aligned across your organization.
  • Impress Stakeholders: Share clean, presentation-ready dashboards with boards, leadership, and partners to communicate impact clearly and confidently.
Impact Reporting - Multi screen
Impact Reporting - Currently in Early Access, Launching Spring 2026

We’ve redesigned reporting to be collaborative instead of extractive, reducing friction for grantees and portfolio companies while giving grantmakers and investors higher-quality data.

  • Streamlined data requests that ease the burden on grantees/investees.

  • Shared visibility so both sides work from the same set of facts.

  • Collaborative workflows that unlock insights faster and strengthen trust.

Let's Collaborate in 2026!

We are so proud of the places we showed up, the conversations we facilitated, and the stages we got to be on in 2025. It's made us even more excited for what's to come in 2026, and we want to do it with YOU.
