About Miami-Dade Innovation Authority

The Miami-Dade Innovation Authority, Inc.  (“MDIA”) is a nonprofit that works to strengthen the relationship between institutions, including local government, and technology companies with innovative solutions that improve the quality of life for Miami-Dade county residents. Founded as an outcome of a collaboration with Miami-Dade County and key technology leaders, MDIA launched in 2023 with an equal match of private, public and philanthropic funding from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Citadel Founder and CEO, Ken Griffin, and Miami-Dade County.

They de-risk capital investments as well as accelerate the discovery and commercialization of technologies through their Public Innovation Challenge Program, which connects private innovators to the public sector through strategic investments and a test-and-validate process designed to help companies successfully deliver market-ready solutions along with accompanying jobs in Miami-Dade County. Their mission is to scale innovative solutions for people most affected by critical public challenges, improve economic and social outcomes, and make Miami-Dade County a world-class capital for high growth technology companies.

Leigh-Ann Buchanan

President & CEO, Miami-Dade Innovation Authority

Leigh-Ann A. Buchanan, Esq., is a founder, investor, and strategic advisor. Her body of work leverages over 15 years of experience as an attorney and social impact executive to explore how tech, innovation and social investment intersect to unlock opportunity and transform communities. Her insights and ideas have been featured in the New York Times, Inc. Magazine, NPR, PBS, Bloomberg, the American Psychological Association, ABA Journal among others. 

She currently serves as the President & CEO of Miami-Dade Innovation Authority, which invests and provides commercialization support to companies from across the globe to pilot test technology solutions to pressing public challenges in partnership with local government and regional economic engines. 

She was raised in Vancouver, Canada and has traveled to more than 50 countries to date.

Dana Tumbaga

Strategic Impact Senior Manager, Miami-Dade Innovation Authority

Dana Tumbaga is a nonprofit professional and social entrepreneur with nearly 10 years of experience in project and program management, operations, and impact data and evaluation. She currently serves as the Senior Manager, Strategic Impact for Miami-Dade Innovation Authority where she leverages over 6 years of experience in innovation to provide commercialization support to companies looking to test their solutions to pressing public challenges.

Previously, Dana has served as a Program Manager at MassChallenge, working with 150+ entrepreneurs to match them with curriculum, mentorship, and strategic connections, and spearheaded the development of a social enterprise providing job skills and financial independence to women survivors of human trafficking. In her spare time, Dana consults with nonprofit startups on their growth and impact evaluation strategy. She is also an avid reader and traveler.
